“Rebbi Meïr says, it is also forbidden to sell good dates, and curved dates, and Nicolaos dates to Gentiles.” Rebbi Ḥama bar Uqba said, Caryotis¹⁵⁵Greek καρυῶτις “nut shaped kind of dates,” Babli 14b. The word חצד may be Arabic خضد “curved, bent”. The reading of the Yerushalmi is preferable to that of the Babli and the independent Mishnah mss., חָצָב, which designates a plant or bush having nothing to do with date palms (Peah2:1 Note 24)..
